Inducing labour in older mums may reduce the risk of stillbirth, according to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in a new paper published today.

In it’s response to the paper, Sands said that every year hundreds of stillbirths are potentially avoidable with better, more targeted care, and that the offer of induction to older women, which research has long shown are at greater risk of losing their baby just around the time when they are preparing for birth, could save babies’ lives.

See the story on BBC online, featuring Sands response.

Following two years of work behind the scenes, Sands has launched a new ‘post mortem consent package’ for health professionals, and bereaved parents following the death of their baby.

The package has been specifically designed to mak…e it easier for health professionals and parents to discuss the difficult topic of a post mortem and to ensure that parents can make an informed choice as to whether to have a post mortem examination of their baby.

The Independent on Sunday ran an in-depth news story about the package.
